Pakistan has clarified that it will continue to comply with applicable sanctions regimes against Iran in line with international obligations and domestic laws, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.
Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan remains committed to its long-standing strategic, diplomatic, economic and security relationship with the United States.
He said Islamabad also continues to engage with relevant stakeholders while following established international frameworks. On the Pakistan-mediated US-Iran dialogue, the spokesperson said Pakistan believes diplomacy and negotiations remain the viable route to resolving disputes peacefully.
Khan said Pakistan had facilitated discussions that led to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and noted that the conditions being discussed publicly were among those agreed under the framework.
On Afghanistan, the spokesperson said Pakistan wants constructive and cooperative relations with Kabul but stressed that cross-border militant activity and attacks originating from Afghan territory remain a major concern.
He said Islamabad remains open to diplomatic engagement, while expecting Afghan authorities to prevent their territory from being used for activities against Pakistan.
