LESCO cuts NEPRA-related losses by Rs58bn over two years

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has reduced its NEPRA-related financial gap from Rs79 billion to around Rs21 billion over the past two years, generating cumulative savings of more than Rs58 billion for the national exchequer.

 

According to the Power Division, LESCO also achieved a recovery rate of 101.05%, surpassing the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) benchmark of 100% for the first time.

 

The utility's distribution losses declined from 15.8% to 11.86%, marking a four-percentage-point reduction—the largest two-year decline recorded by any power distribution company in Pakistan, the ministry said.

 

Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said the results demonstrate the effectiveness of sustained, data-driven oversight and reforms in the power sector.

 

The Power Division added that LESCO's performance highlights how empowered management, consistent oversight and depoliticised governance can improve the financial health of distribution companies, helping reduce circular debt and providing a model for broader reforms across Pakistan's power sector.
