FBR Receives 2.2 Million Income Tax Returns

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has received 2.2 million income tax returns, up from 1.724 million submitted during the corresponding period last year.

The figures were shared during a meeting between FBR officials and a delegation from the Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA), led by FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial.

The meeting focused on improving taxpayer facilitation and encouraging voluntary compliance. The KTBA raised concerns that expanded reporting requirements and demands for more detailed information have increased the time needed to prepare tax returns and called for additional time for taxpayers to meet the requirements.

The association welcomed the FBR’s ongoing digitalisation efforts but stressed that these initiatives should be supported by stronger taxpayer awareness and guidance.

The KTBA also informed the FBR that field formations had started taking penal action against some taxpayers in the services sector. It urged the tax authority to review such cases individually and adopt a more flexible approach to promote compliance rather than discourage taxpayers.
