The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has proposed increasing the maximum limit for microfinance and housing loans to Rs5 million as part of regulatory changes aimed at expanding access to financing.
The proposed amendments have been issued for stakeholder consultation, the regulator said on Tuesday.
Under the proposed framework, the annual income limit for borrowers eligible for microfinance loans would be increased to Rs1.5 million from the existing Rs1.2 million.
The SECP has also proposed higher thresholds for small and medium-sized businesses. The maximum annual turnover limit for small businesses would rise to Rs400 million from Rs150 million, while the threshold for medium-sized businesses would increase to Rs2 billion from Rs800 million.
According to the SECP, the proposed SME thresholds are aligned with recent changes introduced by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The amendments are intended to broaden financing access for individuals and businesses while updating existing regulatory thresholds.
