The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has launched a dedicated Corporate Debt Market Desk to strengthen the corporate debt market and facilitate businesses in raising funds through debt-based instruments.
The new desk will assist issuers and market participants by streamlining the debt issuance process, making it faster, simpler, and more cost-effective.
It will provide guidance on a range of instruments and transactions, including bonds, Sukuk, public offerings, private placements, PSX listings, and other Shariah-compliant debt products.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for the development of a stronger and more efficient corporate debt market to expand long-term financing avenues for businesses and reduce dependence on bank borrowing.
A senior SECP official has been appointed as the desk’s focal person, while a dedicated Corporate Debt Market section has been added to the SECP website, offering regulatory and legal information, market data, guidance materials, and contact details.
SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said a deeper corporate debt market would help diversify long-term funding, attract institutional investment, and facilitate industrial and infrastructure development.
The initiative is part of SECP’s wider reforms to the corporate debt market, which focus on simplifying issuance procedures, lowering associated costs, and standardizing documentation to encourage greater participation from issuers and investors.
