The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is promoting stronger cloud infrastructure and wider cloud adoption to support the digital transformation of Pakistan’s financial sector and economy.
Speaking at an international information security conference in Karachi, SBP Additional Director Ahmed Saeed said cloud infrastructure is essential for advancing digitalization. He noted that the central bank has already established a cloud framework allowing banks to store material information on private cloud infrastructure within Pakistan.
Saeed highlighted the hybrid cloud model as a suitable approach for Pakistan, combining private and public cloud systems while giving financial institutions greater control over sensitive data.
However, shifting toward hybrid cloud infrastructure could create challenges related to performance, data confidentiality and security visibility across different cloud environments.
Pakistan Banks Association CEO and Secretary General Muneer Kamal said the SBP and commercial banks are continuing to strengthen cybersecurity as digital payments expand and the country moves toward a more cashless economy.
