QatarEnergy LNG shipment bound for Pakistan resumes after Hormuz transit

A QatarEnergy-controlled liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker is en route to Pakistan after passing through the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first visible QatarEnergy-operated LNG vessel to exit the strategic waterway in nearly three weeks.

 

According to ship-tracking data from Kpler and LSEG, the Al Areesh loaded its cargo at Qatar's Ras Laffan terminal between 4-6 July before transiting the Strait of Hormuz on 29 July. The vessel is expected to arrive at Port Qasim on 31 July.

 

The tanker is the first QatarEnergy-controlled LNG carrier to leave the strait since the Al Rekayyat was struck earlier this month. The previous LNG tanker to transit the waterway was the Al Hamra, which departed on 11 July carrying cargo loaded at the UAE's Das Island.

 

The development suggests a gradual resumption of LNG movements through the Strait of Hormuz following weeks of heightened regional tensions that had raised concerns over energy supplies.

 

Separately, ship-tracking data showed the ADNOC Gas-controlled LNG tanker Mraweh re-entered the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday while sailing in ballast.

 

Meanwhile, tanker traffic through the region showed signs of recovery, with 12 commodity vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. However, shipping activity through the Bab el-Mandeb remained below recent levels as security concerns in the Red Sea continue to affect regional energy trade.
