Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a gas and condensate discovery at the Rahi X-1 exploration well in the Shah Bandar Block in Sujawal district, Sindh, marking the company's fourth consecutive hydrocarbon discovery in the block.
According to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), PPL operates the block with a 63% working interest, alongside Mari Energies Limited (32%), while Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) each hold 2.5% stakes.
The Rahi X-1 well was spudded on June 17, 2026, and drilled to a depth of 2,612 metres, targeting the Upper Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. Wireline log interpretation confirmed a hydrocarbon-bearing zone, which was successfully tested through a cased-hole drill stem test (DST).
During testing, the well produced 0.493 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas and 12 barrels of condensate per day at a wellhead flowing pressure of 133 psi through a 32/64-inch choke.
The latest discovery strengthens PPL's exploration success in the Shah Bandar Block and is expected to support efforts to enhance Pakistan's domestic oil and gas production.
