Petroleum dealers divided over nationwide shutdown

Petroleum dealers across Pakistan remain divided over a proposed nationwide strike, creating uncertainty over whether fuel stations will suspend operations in support of demands for higher dealer margins.

While the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has announced an indefinite countrywide shutdown, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has yet to endorse the strike. The association said its Central Committee would meet in Karachi on Wednesday to decide its course of action.

PPDA Vice President Tariq Hassan said the government had assured dealers that their concerns would be addressed and requested one week to secure the necessary approvals. He added that the Owners Association announced the strike without consulting the PPDA, and no final decision on participation would be made until after the committee meeting.

According to Hassan, recent discussions with government officials were constructive, with authorities expressing support for the dealers' demands while seeking the prime minister's approval before implementation. The dealers are seeking an increase in sales commissions and a revision of fuel pricing in line with the previous policy framework.
