Passenger car sales in Pakistan declined 13% year on year (YoY) to 15,378 units in June 2026, compared to 17,659 units in the same month last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). However, on a month on month (MoM) basis, sales increased 16% from 13,211 units recorded in May 2026, with analysts at Topline Research attributing the rise to pre-budget buying activity.
Despite the June slowdown, the auto sector posted a strong performance during FY26 (July 2025 to June 2026). Total passenger car sales climbed 39% to 155,631 units, compared with 112,203 units sold in the previous fiscal year.
In the passenger car segment, vehicles with engine capacities of 1,300cc and above recorded a 6% YoY increase to 7,200 units in June. Meanwhile, the 1,000cc category declined 35% to 439 units, while sales of vehicles below 1,000cc dropped 24% to 7,719 units. Sales of the Dewan Honri-V electric vehicle also fell 33% to 20 units.
Among higher engine vehicles, Honda Civic and City delivered the strongest performance, with sales jumping 52% to 2,594 units. Suzuki Swift sales slipped 7% to 1,668 units, while Toyota's Corolla, Yaris, and Corolla Cross lineup declined 9% to 2,650 units. Hyundai Elantra and Sonata also recorded lower sales, falling 14% and 49%, respectively.
In the smaller engine categories, Suzuki Cultus sales decreased 16% to 439 units. Suzuki Alto, the country's best selling car, recorded a 24% decline to 7,239 units, while Suzuki Every sales fell 30% to 480 units.
The jeeps and pickups segment remained a bright spot, with sales surging 73% YoY to 7,363 units. Haval and Tank models assembled by Sazgar more than doubled their sales, rising 103% to 2,720 units. Honda BR-V and HR-V sales jumped 286%, while Toyota Fortuner and IMVs posted a 9% increase. Hyundai Tucson sales, however, declined 15%.
Commercial vehicle demand also improved, with truck and bus sales increasing 39% YoY to 1,023 units. Farm tractor sales rose 10% in June to 3,059 units, although cumulative FY26 tractor sales edged down 1% to 28,791 units.
Motorcycle and three wheeler sales gained 29% YoY to 178,508 units in June. Atlas Honda led the segment with a 32% increase to 152,153 units, while Suzuki motorcycle sales rose 29% to 3,431 units.
Looking ahead, Topline Research expects the positive trend in Pakistan's auto industry to continue during FY27, supported by the introduction of new vehicle variants and the entry of additional automotive brands into the market.
