Pakistan’s total debt, including domestic, external and International Monetary Fund (IMF) obligations, stood at Rs81.37 trillion as of December 2025, according to figures presented by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in the Senate.
The debt breakdown showed domestic debt at Rs55.36 trillion, external debt at Rs23.16 trillion, and IMF debt at Rs2.74 trillion.
The figures were provided in response to a question from PPP Senator Talha Mahmood seeking details of Pakistan’s outstanding domestic and foreign loans, repayments over the past five years and the markup paid on those loans.
External debt servicing amounted to Rs24.85 trillion in FY2025-26, compared with Rs25.53 trillion in FY2024-25 and Rs27.16 trillion in FY2023-24. For July-December FY2026-27, external debt servicing stood at Rs13.80 trillion.
Meanwhile, markup payments on Pakistan’s total domestic and external debt rose from Rs2.75 trillion in FY2021-22 to Rs8.88 trillion in FY2025-26. During the first six months of FY2026-27, markup payments amounted to Rs3.56 trillion.
