Pakistan and Uzbekistan are expected to sign a five-year roadmap for economic cooperation during the visit of Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev on July 20–21, with the aim of boosting bilateral trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
According to a statement issued by the Economic Affairs Division, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the visit and assess coordination among relevant government ministries.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul, senior railway officials, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), the Ministry of Communications, and other government representatives.
Discussions focused on improving regional connectivity through enhanced road and rail links, the development of transport corridors, and stronger logistics infrastructure to facilitate faster and more efficient trade between the two countries.
Officials also informed the meeting that a Pakistan-Uzbekistan business forum will be held during the visit, with participation expected from more than 100 Uzbek companies, highlighting growing interest in trade, investment, and joint ventures.
Priority sectors for cooperation include agriculture, pharmaceuticals, industry, transport, and logistics, as both countries seek to strengthen economic collaboration and expand public-private partnerships.
Cheema expressed confidence that the five-year cooperation roadmap would be finalized during the visit, providing a long-term framework for expanding bilateral trade, investment, connectivity, and economic cooperation.
The meeting was further informed that both sides have reached consensus on several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements expected to be signed during the visit to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
Concluding the session, Cheema directed all relevant ministries and departments to complete preparations on time, saying the visit presents an important opportunity to deepen economic relations, improve regional connectivity, and unlock greater trade potential between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
