Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday agreed to deepen cooperation in the mining and minerals sector, with both sides exploring joint investment opportunities across the mineral value chain, as global focus intensifies on critical minerals.
The understanding emerged during a meeting between Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Ibrahim Al-Khorayef on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) 2026 in Riyadh, where Malik is leading a high-level Pakistani delegation.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration in mining, technical cooperation, and investment partnerships. The Saudi minister welcomed Pakistan’s participation in the forum and noted that mining and critical minerals have become a key global priority. He highlighted the significant scope for Pakistan-Saudi collaboration and assured Saudi Arabia’s technical expertise and knowledge support for the development of Pakistan’s mineral sector. He also described Pakistan’s young and dynamic workforce as a major strength.
Malik reaffirmed the brotherly relations between the two countries and Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation. He informed the Saudi side that the Geological Survey of Pakistan is pursuing collaboration with the Saudi Geological Survey, and pointed to the vast mineral potential of the Tethyan Belt, stating that Reko Diq represents only a fraction of Pakistan’s mineral wealth.
The minister also identified fertiliser production and medical equipment manufacturing as additional areas offering strong potential for joint ventures between the two countries.The Pakistani delegation includes senior government officials, heads of state-owned enterprises, private sector representatives, and leading mining stakeholders, including PPL, OGDCL, Mari Energies, GHPL, FWO, PMDC, Saindak Metals, and Balochistan-based mineral companies, along with specialised service providers.

Pakistan’s participation at the FMF 2026 is being organised by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division). Under the theme ‘Mineral Marvel — Unleashing Pakistan’s Mineral Revolution’, the Pakistan Pavilion highlights the country’s geological potential, flagship mining projects and investment opportunities.
Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy welcomed the Pakistani delegation and pledged full support, stating that Pakistan’s presence at the forum would further strengthen bilateral ties. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. During a visit to the Pakistan Pavilion, Minister Bandar Ibrahim Al-Khorayef lauded the delegation’s efforts, particularly the pavilion’s distinctive design and visual presentation.
