Pakistan, Russia Sign Freight Rail Cooperation Contract

Pakistan Railways and Russian Railways Logistics (RZD Logistics) have signed a Freight Forwarding Contract to strengthen cooperation in international freight transportation and multimodal logistics.

The agreement establishes a framework for expanding rail-based trade between Pakistan, Russia and Central Asian countries while improving regional connectivity and logistics services.

Under the initiative, both sides had also planned to launch a Pakistan-Russia Pilot Container Freight Train. However, the project's scheduled launch has been delayed due to the ongoing regional conflict.

Pakistan Railways and RZD Logistics remain committed to launching the pilot service once regional conditions allow.

The cooperation is expected to support cost-effective and sustainable freight transportation, facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and improve logistics efficiency. The initiative could also help Pakistan Railways expand its international freight operations and strengthen its integration with regional and global trade routes.
