Pakistan has received offers in a tender to purchase up to 185,000 metric tonnes of wheat, with the lowest bid estimated at $339.36 per tonne on a cost-and-freight (C&F) basis, according to European traders.
The lowest offer was reportedly submitted by Bunge for around 60,000 tonnes. The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is still evaluating the bids, and no purchase has been confirmed. A decision is expected in the coming days.
The tender comes amid tighter global wheat trade, as ongoing fighting has disrupted seaborne exports of relatively cheaper Russian and Ukrainian wheat, making supplies from alternative origins more expensive.
Earlier this month, TCP purchased 365,000 tonnes at $348.83 per tonne C&F in a separate tender that sought up to 750,000 tonnes.
Other offers in the latest tender included Olam at $341.88 per tonne, Ameropa at $343.47, Agrocorp at $343.74, CHS at $345, Mera at $346.19 and Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) at $346.50 per tonne.
Additional bids came from Falconbridge at $347.49, Al Ghurair at $349, Saif at $350.53, Soufflet at $354.82 and Aston at $354.83 per tonne.
The quoted prices and volumes remain subject to further assessments as TCP considers the offers.
