Pakistan, Kuwait strengthen cooperation to deepen economic partnership

Pakistan and Kuwait have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence, labour and other strategic sectors, while strengthening institutional ties through regular high-level engagement.

 

The understanding was reached during talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, where both sides reviewed bilateral relations with a focus on enhancing economic collaboration and exploring new opportunities for mutual growth.

 

To accelerate implementation, the two countries decided to establish joint working groups covering trade and investment, energy, agriculture and food security, information technology, education and healthcare. They also agreed to hold regular review meetings to monitor progress on agreed initiatives.

 

Dar highlighted the importance of sustained high-level exchanges and emphasised the strong potential for expanding trade, investment and sector-specific cooperation. The Kuwaiti foreign minister reaffirmed his country's commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan and praised the contributions of the Pakistani community to Kuwait's economic development.

 

During a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan's commitment to broadening cooperation with Kuwait in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, IT, maritime affairs and human resource development. He also reaffirmed Pakistan's support for Kuwait and other Gulf nations amid regional tensions and stressed Pakistan's role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.

 

The two sides also reviewed defence cooperation, with Dar welcoming Kuwait's ratification of the Pakistan-Kuwait Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in June 2023, describing it as a major step towards closer military collaboration.

 

Both countries also exchanged views on regional and global developments, pledged continued coordination at multilateral forums, including the United Nations, and agreed to maintain regular consultations and exchange delegations to further strengthen bilateral relations.
