Pakistan, EU Sign €65 Million Grant Package for Investment, Energy and Rule of Law

Pakistan and the European Union have signed three grant agreements worth a combined €65 million to support investment, energy resilience and improvements in the business and legal environment.

The agreements cover three programmes: Global Gateway Development Facilitation for Pakistan, Energy and Natural Environment Resilience in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and EU Support to the Rule of Law and Business Environment in Pakistan.

The agreements were signed by EU Ambassador to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis and Economic Affairs Division Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim under the EU’s Multiannual Indicative Programme 2021–2027.

The Global Gateway programme will focus on improving Pakistan’s investment environment by supporting tax-system reforms and strengthening long-term public financial planning, with the aim of facilitating greater foreign investment.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa programme will promote renewable energy in off-grid rural communities and provide training aimed at encouraging private-sector investment and participation in the province’s energy sector.

The third initiative will strengthen access to police services, prosecution, courts and legal aid in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. It will also support Punjab and Sindh in expanding alternative and commercial dispute-resolution mechanisms.

The EU said the package reflects its cooperation with Pakistan in areas including economic development, energy resilience, investment facilitation and the rule of law.
