Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik chaired a meeting with World Bank Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar to review Pakistan's roadmap for transforming the gas sector into a more competitive, efficient, and market-oriented system.
The roadmap, developed with World Bank technical support, proposes restructuring the Sui gas companies, strengthening OGRA's regulatory role, encouraging private sector participation, and redesigning the subsidy framework to move toward a market-based gas pricing mechanism.
The reform package includes a Gas Market Evolution Plan, investment roadmap, financial model, and legal and regulatory reforms. The government plans to submit the final roadmap for the Prime Minister's approval by the end of August, with phased implementation to follow. The reforms aim to enhance energy security, improve governance, attract investment, and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the gas sector.
