Largest LNG Carrier Berths at Port Qasim

Pakistan has successfully avoided a potential energy supply disruption after an emergency liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo was safely berthed at Port Qasim despite severe monsoon weather and challenging sea conditions.

 

According to the Port Qasim Authority (PQA), the LNG carrier SK Resolute was navigated through the port's 49-kilometre channel under difficult conditions, marking a significant operational achievement and helping secure the country's energy supplies.

 

The emergency operation was launched after two scheduled QatarEnergy LNG cargoes were unable to reach Pakistan due to force majeure linked to regional tensions, raising concerns over fuel availability. To address the shortfall, Pakistan LNG Limited arranged a spot LNG cargo that was already at sea.

 

The vessel transported 171,951 cubic metres of LNG, making it the largest LNG shipment ever received at the PGPCL terminal. With a beam of 47.8 metres, it also became the widest LNG carrier to dock at Port Qasim during the monsoon season.

 

PQA said the successful berthing of the vessel will help maintain uninterrupted power generation and support energy supplies for both residential and industrial consumers across the country.

 

The authority added that the operation highlighted Port Qasim's operational readiness, technical expertise, and ability to manage critical maritime operations under adverse weather conditions while protecting the country's energy security.
