Gold prices fell more than 1% on Thursday as stronger-than-expected inflation pressures and rising oil prices increased expectations of a Federal Reserve interest-rate hike next week.
Spot gold declined 1% to $4,355.85 per ounce by 1:42 p.m. EDT (1742 GMT), after falling as much as 1.7% earlier in the session to $4,323.78, its lowest level of the day.
The decline came as investors reassessed the outlook for US monetary policy following the latest inflation data, with markets pricing in a higher probability of a rate increase at the Federal Reserve’s upcoming meeting.
