Gold prices edged higher on Thursday as investors evaluated comments from US Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh on inflation after the central bank kept interest rates unchanged at its latest policy meeting.
Spot gold rose 0.3% to $4,076.29 per ounce by 0245 GMT, after climbing as much as 2% in the previous session. Meanwhile, US gold futures for August delivery advanced 1% to $4,073.60 per ounce.
Market participants are also awaiting the release of the US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index for June later in the day for further clues on the inflation outlook and the Federal Reserve's policy path.
According to the CME FedWatch Tool, traders currently see a 63% probability that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its September meeting. Meanwhile, renewed US military strikes on Iran have also supported safe haven demand for gold.
