Pakistan’s freelancers generated $175.44 million in export receipts during July 2026, marking a 45.5% year-on-year increase from $120.56 million recorded in July 2025, according to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data.
Freelance earnings increased by around $54.88 million during the month, with IT-related services contributing $106.78 million and non-IT services generating $68.66 million.
In July 2025, freelance IT services accounted for $89.87 million, while non-IT freelance services generated $30.68 million.
The Pakistan Freelancers Association said the sector has maintained strong growth but would need to sustain growth of more than 50% in the coming months to achieve a significant increase in earnings by the end of FY2026-27.
Industry representatives highlighted freelancing as a major opportunity for Pakistan’s youth and students, while stressing the importance of developing technical, communication, business development and client-management skills to compete internationally.
The government and private sector are also expanding skills-development initiatives to help young people enter the digital workforce. New freelancer awards announced by the Pakistan Freelancers Association and Pakistan Software Export Board are expected to further recognise the sector’s contribution and encourage participation in the digital economy.
