The Balochistan Zamindar Action Committee has called on the government to ensure adequate fertiliser supplies across the province and provide compensation to farmers affected by recent rains and floods.
The committee has given the government until September 15 to address its demands, warning that continued problems could affect not only farmers but also workers, transporters, commission agents and other agriculture-linked businesses.
Farmers have demanded higher fertiliser quotas and uninterrupted availability of urea and nitrogen-based fertilisers. They also called for strict action against traders involved in hoarding and creating artificial shortages.
The committee urged authorities to strengthen monitoring at border entry and exit points to prevent the illegal inflow of agricultural produce, including tomatoes, apples, grapes and onions from neighbouring countries.
It also called for fresh assessments of losses caused by floods, heavy rainfall and strong winds between 2022 and 2026, saying updated surveys are needed to determine the extent of damage suffered by farmers.
The committee further raised concerns over electricity shortages in rural areas following the implementation of solarisation initiatives.
