ECC approves steering committee to oversee wheat import mechanism

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the formation of a high-level steering committee to assess wheat import requirements and develop an operational mechanism for future imports based on provincial demand.

 

Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the committee will evaluate the country's wheat needs, review import proposals and coordinate with provinces to determine procurement requirements.

 

The committee will include the federal ministers for National Food Security, Commerce, Economic Affairs and Law, along with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Coordination, the Prime Minister's Coordinator on Agriculture and Food Security, senior officials from the Finance, Commerce and National Food Security ministries, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), and the chief secretaries of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

 

The decision was taken during an ECC meeting virtually chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, which was attended by federal ministers, senior government officials and representatives of relevant ministries and regulatory authorities.
