Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Tuesday that banks have approved PKR 204 billion in housing finance under the Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme, with PKR 27 billion already disbursed to beneficiaries.
The update was shared during a high-level review meeting, where officials said the Ministry of Housing and Works and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) are conducting weekly reviews to monitor progress and address implementation challenges.
The prime minister directed authorities to accelerate the programme, stressing that expanding affordable housing for low- and middle-income families remains a key government priority. He also urged public and private sector banks to increase financing support to improve access to housing loans.
Sharif further instructed officials to develop a comprehensive strategy for both vertical and horizontal housing projects under the scheme, emphasising the need for practical and sustainable housing solutions to meet the country's growing demand. He reiterated that close coordination among all relevant institutions is essential for the timely and effective implementation of the programme.
