The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) has approved the high-level design of Pakistan’s National Integrated Energy Plan (IEP) 2027–2060, marking a key step toward developing a coordinated and long-term strategy for the country’s energy sector.
The design, presented by the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division, aims to move away from separate planning for individual energy subsectors and establish an integrated framework covering federal and provincial institutions.
The plan is built around four key pillars: Energy, Economics, Equity and Environment. These focus on ensuring energy security and reliability, developing a competitive and financially sustainable sector, promoting an inclusive energy transition, and supporting a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.
The integrated approach is expected to improve coordination of energy investments and infrastructure, reduce duplication and optimize the use of domestic energy resources. It also aims to support more efficient energy systems and help lower overall energy costs.
The IEP will encourage greater use of indigenous energy resources, renewable energy and emerging technologies such as energy storage, while reducing reliance on expensive imported energy where technically and economically feasible.
The plan ultimately seeks to provide consumers with reliable, affordable and accessible energy, while ensuring Pakistan’s long-term energy development remains aligned with environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
