PM informed: Food items available in ample quantity

Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here Monday and discussed different matters concerning food security.

On the occasion, Rana Tanveer Hussain briefed the Prime Minister on the recent status of the country’s food reserves and requirements.

The briefing highlighted that food items are available in ample quantity across the country. The minister also informed about the progress regarding the export of food items to the Gulf countries.

It may be noted that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting directed authorities concerned to ensure complete monitoring of supply and demand of food items to safeguard national food requirements.

The Prime Minister directed that special attention should be given to meeting the food requirements of Gulf countries while ensuring their food security. He instructed to formulate a comprehensive strategy for export of surplus food items to Gulf countries without affecting domestic food needs.

Officials said Pakistan’s agricultural sector, including crops, meat, poultry, dairy and seafood, has significant export potential.
