Pakistan, Iran agree to strengthen security cooperation

Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on security, border management, and regional stability during Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni’s three-day official visit to Islamabad.

In talks with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in counterterrorism, counternarcotics, curbing illegal immigration, and combating human smuggling. They also stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address shared security challenges, particularly along the Afghan border.

Momeni was welcomed at the Ministry of Interior with a guard of honour by the Federal Constabulary before holding one-on-one and delegation-level meetings with Naqvi. The discussions focused on bilateral ties, regional developments, and expanding cooperation between the neighbouring countries.

The ministers agreed to strengthen institutional coordination among law enforcement agencies to tackle cross-border terrorism, narcotics trafficking, illegal immigration, and human smuggling more effectively.

Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Iran across multiple sectors and appreciated the efforts of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in promoting regional peace, expressing confidence that ongoing diplomatic initiatives would contribute to lasting stability.

The Iranian delegation included senior officials from the interior ministry, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, the National Iranian Oil Company, and other government departments. Pakistan was represented by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, NADRA, FIA, ANF, Federal Constabulary, Immigration and Passports, Islamabad Police, and other relevant agencies.

The visit reflected both countries' commitment to strengthening cooperation on security, border management, and broader regional stability through closer institutional coordination.
