Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt have affirmed Riyadh’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law, while calling for the protection of maritime navigation in the region amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis.
The four countries issued a joint statement on Tuesday following a meeting of their foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The ministers expressed concern over continuing conflicts and instability across the region, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the path towards a sustainable resolution.
They also highlighted the importance of maintaining the safety and security of navigation in regional waters, amid growing tensions and attacks affecting Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
The foreign ministers further reaffirmed their support for the Yemeni government and its efforts to promote stability and achieve peace in the country.
The statement comes as regional tensions remain elevated, with developments in Yemen and the broader Middle East continuing to pose risks to regional security, trade routes and maritime transportation.
