Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has highlighted Pakistan’s move toward establishing a regulated framework for virtual assets, emphasizing the need to balance digital innovation with appropriate safeguards.
Speaking at the United Nations Digital Cooperation Day 2026 session on blockchain and tokenization, Aurangzeb said tokenization should focus on practical economic applications rather than technology alone.
He identified areas including lower-cost remittances, SME financing, sovereign debt markets and broader financial inclusion as potential use cases for tokenized assets.
The minister stressed that private-sector innovation should operate alongside effective government safeguards, inclusive digital infrastructure and greater international cooperation.
He also called for emerging economies to have a meaningful role in developing global standards for blockchain, tokenization and digital financial systems.
