Oil prices climbed on Tuesday as fresh attacks in the Middle East and an ongoing disruption to Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline heightened concerns over global supply.
Brent crude futures increased by $1.24, or 1.18%, to $106.93 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained $1.29, or 1.24%, to $102.65 per barrel.
The latest gains came after further attacks on Saudi Arabia raised fears that the regional conflict could escalate and create additional disruptions to energy infrastructure and oil transportation.
Yemen’s Houthi forces launched missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia on Monday, targeting the Khamis Mushait military airbase in the country’s south. The attacks reportedly hit aircraft facilities, radar systems, runways and ammunition depots.
The developments followed Friday’s attacks that disrupted Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, a key route that allows the kingdom to transport crude to the Red Sea and bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
The disruption has increased market sensitivity to the availability of alternative export routes, particularly as shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below normal levels.
Vessel traffic through the strategic waterway fell to fewer than 10 transits per day over the weekend, compared with a 10-day average of 14. Before the conflict began, the strait typically handled around one-fifth of global oil supplies.
Saudi Arabia could face pressure on export availability if the East-West pipeline remains offline for an extended period. The pipeline has been used to redirect around 4 million barrels per day, equivalent to roughly 4% of global oil supply, to the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
Market participants are now closely watching how quickly Saudi Arabia can restore the pipeline. A prolonged outage could further tighten global crude markets and push oil prices higher.
Meanwhile, geopolitical uncertainty remains elevated as Gulf Arab states postponed planned discussions with Iran, adding to concerns that the conflict could broaden and create further risks for regional energy supplies.
