Qatari LNG Cargo Arrives at Pakistan’s Port Qasim

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from Qatar has arrived at Pakistan’s Port Qasim, providing some relief as the country faces difficulties securing LNG supplies amid geopolitical disruptions and elevated spot-market prices.

 

The LNG carrier Al Marrouna, carrying around 142,217 cubic metres of LNG, berthed at the Engro Elengy Terminal at approximately 11:38am on Thursday, according to Port Qasim Authority officials.

 

Another Qatari LNG cargo is also expected to reach Pakistan in the coming days.

 

Pakistan relies heavily on its long-term LNG supply agreements with Qatar to secure stable and relatively affordable gas supplies. However, renewed tensions around the Strait of Hormuz disrupted shipments, including the cancellation of a Qatari cargo scheduled for July, after Qatar declared force majeure.

 

The disruption has forced Pakistan to explore emergency supplies, alternative fuels and costly spot-market LNG cargoes.

 

Meanwhile, state-owned Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) has reissued a tender seeking an LNG cargo for delivery between September 12 and 16, after rejecting previous bids due to high prices.

 

BP Singapore had offered $26.90 per MMBtu for an earlier delivery window, while its subsequent bid was reduced to $26.7128 per MMBtu. PLL again rejected the offer, considering the price too expensive.
