Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed banks and financial institutions to increase lending to farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the housing sector to improve access to finance and support economic growth.
The directive was issued during a review meeting on the government’s Access to Finance Plan 2026–2028, which aims to expand financing for priority sectors, boost exports and create employment.
Under the plan, the government has set a Rs2 trillion lending target each for agriculture and SMEs by June 2028.
In August 2026, bank lending stood at Rs1.268 trillion for agriculture and Rs1.067 trillion for SMEs.
Meanwhile, under the Apna Ghar Program, 53,127 applications have been approved, with total approved financing of Rs313.42 billion.
