The government has approved an increase of Rs0.5194 per unit in electricity tariffs, adding an estimated Rs12.6 billion to the financial burden on power consumers.
The adjustment will apply to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, users covered under the Incremental Consumption Package and prepaid consumers.
According to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the quarterly adjustment will be recovered at a uniform rate of Rs0.5194 per kWh during September, October and November 2026.
During the proceedings, distribution companies had sought a quarterly adjustment of around Rs33 billion and proposed spreading its impact over four months. However, NEPRA determined the applicable adjustment at roughly Rs12 billion and retained the three-month recovery period.
The regulator also extended the adjustment to K-Electric consumers, who will be charged the same Rs0.5194 per kWh for the specified period, subject to the same exemptions.
NEPRA directed all distribution companies (DISCOs) to submit their quarterly adjustment requests promptly after the end of each quarter to ensure timely processing.
The DISCOs have also been instructed to provide category-wise details of quarterly changes in electricity sales, comparing reference sales and actual sales with the corresponding period of the previous year.
For industrial consumers, the data will be submitted separately for B1, B2, B3 and B4 categories.
The authority further directed that future hearings include analysis of changes in electricity sales and Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI), along with their impact on quarterly adjustment calculations.
