Iran Hails Asim Munir’s Visit as Highly Fruitful

Iran has described Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran as “highly fruitful”, as Pakistan pushes to revive diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the US-Iran conflict.

 

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside Field Marshal Munir, was “very positive and productive”. He said the talks focused on regional tensions, the US-Iran conflict and efforts to restore the stalled Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

 

Naqvi said “significant progress” was achieved during the discussions and expressed hope that the renewed diplomatic momentum would support further negotiations and lasting regional peace.

 

Iranian President’s Office official Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei also described Munir’s visit as highly fruitful, saying it produced valuable diplomatic achievements and rejecting what he called inaccurate media speculation about the trip.

 

Pakistan’s mediation efforts are centred on restoring the Islamabad MoU, which was intended to provide a framework for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Iranian officials, however, have reportedly stressed the need for practical guarantees from the United States and expressed concerns over previous commitments.

 

Following his return, Naqvi also met US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad. The two sides discussed regional peace, bilateral cooperation and measures to counter organised crime, narcotics and human trafficking.

 

Notably, Baker appreciated Field Marshal Munir’s positive diplomatic role in promoting peace and stability, indicating that Washington remains attentive to Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

 

Islamabad now hopes the progress reported in Tehran can translate into concrete steps toward restoring the MoU and achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict.
