The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs0.39 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.40 per litre, with the revised rates taking effect from Tuesday, August 25.
Following the adjustment, petrol will be available at Rs341.98 per litre, while the price of HSD has been set at Rs370.69 per litre. The government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.
According to the Petroleum Division’s notification, the latest prices reflect changes in international oil markets.
HSD has fallen significantly from its record price of Rs520.35 per litre reached on April 3. Its price had climbed from around Rs281 per litre following the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict on February 28.
Similarly, petrol had surged to a peak of Rs458.41 per litre on April 3, after rising from Rs266 per litre in early March.
The government has also moved towards a daily fuel pricing mechanism amid volatility in international oil markets and renewed tensions in the Middle East. Under the new arrangement, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) is responsible for determining fuel prices based on global market movements.
Petrol remains a key fuel for private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws and other small transport, meaning changes in its price can directly affect household budgets, particularly for middle- and lower middle income consumers.
