Pakistan and Google have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI), IT exports and innovation across the country.
Under the agreement, Google will expand its Google Career Certificates programme, with a target of providing 150,000 certificates in Pakistan during 2026. Pakistani students will also receive free access to advanced AI tools, including Google AI Plus and Gemini, for one year.
The partnership also includes plans to establish an AI Centre of Excellence in Islamabad to train Pakistani youth and develop talent aligned with global market requirements.
The two sides will also collaborate on strengthening Pakistan’s mobile applications and gaming industry, digital payments, e-commerce and public-sector services. AI applications will be explored for government data analytics, including the Federal Board of Revenue’s digitisation efforts.
In agriculture, Google will support the use of AI for crop monitoring, forecasting and sustainable farming practices. Digital platforms will also help Pakistani small and medium-sized enterprises access international markets.
A joint task force involving the government, Google and other stakeholders will develop a roadmap to improve Pakistan’s IT exports and global competitiveness, identify barriers and explore new growth opportunities.
The government said the partnership supports Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s goal of expanding Pakistan’s digital economy and increasing IT exports to $30 billion by 2030.
