Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced plans to establish a 150-acre automotive processing zone at Port Qasim, with expansion to be carried out in phases based on market demand.
The proposed facility will feature 264 operational units across five segments, including 84 refurbishment workshops, 60 vehicle display units, 70 auto spare-parts units, 30 commercial units and 20 machinery yards.
Located within the Port Qasim industrial corridor, the zone will provide direct port access, helping reduce inland transportation and logistics costs.
The project will introduce Pakistan’s first dedicated Import-Refurbishment-Export (AIRE) framework for the automotive sector, bringing vehicle refurbishment, commercial activities, displays and spare-parts suppliers into one integrated ecosystem.
Officials estimate the facility could generate around $500 million in annual exports and deliver a net foreign exchange surplus of approximately $200 million.
