Gold prices rose on Monday as oil prices retreated after U.S. President Donald Trump postponed fresh military action against Iran in favour of pursuing a nuclear agreement, easing concerns over inflation while sustaining demand for safe-haven assets.
Spot gold climbed 0.7% to USD 4,068.54 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures advanced 0.9% to USD 4,066.60.
The gains came as falling crude prices reduced inflation expectations and the likelihood of higher interest rates, while investors continued to monitor geopolitical developments in the Middle East and progress in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
