Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed fresh Chinese investment in Pakistan's agriculture and food security sectors, saying collaboration with Chinese firms would help modernise the country's grain storage infrastructure through advanced technology and workforce development.
During a meeting with a delegation from Chinese agricultural technology company FAMSUN, led by CEO Jack Chen, the prime minister said stronger business-to-business cooperation between Pakistan and China would further deepen bilateral economic ties.
Sharif endorsed FAMSUN's proposal to upgrade existing grain storage facilities into modern, environmentally friendly silos, while stressing that the initiative should include technology transfer and training programmes to develop local expertise.
Jack Chen reaffirmed FAMSUN's interest in supporting Pakistan through modern storage solutions, green silo technology, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening food security. He also noted that discussions on the project gained momentum following his meeting with the prime minister during Sharif's recent visit to China.
According to officials, FAMSUN plans to establish a demonstration centre in Pakistan for green silo development, while existing storage centres will be upgraded into eco-friendly storage systems. The company has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Green Pakistan Initiative to expand cooperation in agriculture and food security.
