Pakistan Signs MoU with Chinese Firm for EV Charging Infrastructure

Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China's Bahum Global Ltd to accelerate the development of the country's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and strengthen its EV ecosystem through technology transfer and local collaboration.

The agreement, signed between Bahum Global Ltd and StarCharge Energy Pakistan, will see the Chinese company provide technological expertise to support the establishment of EV charging stations across the country. The initiative is expected to improve charging accessibility and encourage wider adoption of electric vehicles.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said the government is committed to promoting electric mobility as part of efforts to modernise Pakistan's transport sector. He added that the upcoming Battery Energy Storage System Policy and support for local lithium-ion battery manufacturing would attract foreign investment and help develop a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

The government believes the transition to electric mobility will reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, strengthen energy security, lower the import bill, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
