Current Account Posts $244 Million Deficit in December 2025

Pakistan’s current account recorded a deficit of $244 million in December 2025, marking a significant deterioration compared to a surplus of $98 million in November 2025, according to the latest official data. The reversal highlights renewed pressure on the country’s external accounts after a brief period of improvement in the previous month.

The widening deficit is primarily attributed to higher import payments, particularly for energy and essential commodities, along with increased outflows related to debt servicing. Seasonal factors and year-end commercial activity may also have contributed to the rise in the current account gap. Analysts believe that while the monthly deficit raises concerns, sustained export growth and steady remittance inflows will be crucial in stabilizing the external balance in the coming months.
