Pakistan has engaged Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to explore potential investment opportunities in the country’s mining and minerals sector, including emerging projects with significant commercial potential.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) said the engagement reflects growing international interest in Pakistan’s natural resource base and its efforts to attract foreign investors to strategic sectors of the economy.
Sumitomo Corporation, a major Japanese trading and investment conglomerate, is being engaged as part of the SIFC’s broader initiative to connect international investors with commercially viable projects in Pakistan.
According to the SIFC, Pakistan’s mining and minerals sector offers considerable opportunities across exploration, resource development, value addition and downstream industrial activities. The council is working to facilitate greater international participation to unlock the sector's economic potential.
The latest development is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen investor confidence and convert identified opportunities into sustainable commercial ventures.
Established in June 2023, the SIFC serves as a central platform for facilitating domestic and foreign investment through a whole-of-government approach and streamlined decision-making.
The council aims to attract investment into key sectors and position itself as a single-window platform for investors. Its broader objectives include increasing foreign direct investment and supporting Pakistan's long-term economic growth through large-scale investments in strategic industries.
