Banks Disburse More Than Rs34 Billion in Affordable Housing Loans

Banks have disbursed Rs34.27 billion in affordable housing loans so far under the government’s Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Programme, with borrowers able to access financing of up to Rs10 million at a fixed 5% interest rate.

According to the Ministry of Finance, banks have approved more than Rs220.68 billion in housing loans, which are now ready for disbursement. The government has allocated Rs72 billion in subsidies for FY27 to absorb the interest cost and maintain the subsidized financing rate.

The Access to Finance Steering Committee also reviewed measures to improve housing finance, including the digitization of property records, faster title verification and stronger mortgage-based lending mechanisms.

The committee further discussed initiatives covering SME, agriculture and housing finance, as well as efforts to expand agricultural lending and support electric-vehicle financing.
