Govt seeks more Chinese investment in ports, minister says

Pakistan has invited Chinese companies to expand investment in its ports, logistics, and maritime sectors as part of efforts to strengthen the country's position as a regional trade and transport hub.

Speaking at a trade and logistics forum in Beijing, Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the government is implementing reforms to modernise the maritime sector, improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and attract foreign investment.

The minister highlighted Pakistan's strategic geographic location and outlined investment opportunities in port development, logistics infrastructure, multimodal transport networks, industrial facilities, and digital trade services. He noted that key organisations, including the Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, are pursuing initiatives to upgrade the country's maritime infrastructure.

Chaudhry also promoted Gwadar Port as a key investment destination under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), offering opportunities in port operations, warehousing, logistics, free-zone development, and maritime industries. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining an investor-friendly environment and supporting long-term partnerships with Chinese businesses.
